Sony has announced their latest E-mount lens and a new addition to the G Master series in the shape of the Sony FE 35mm F1.4 GM (SEL35F14GM).
The FE 35mm F1.4 GM is extremely compact and measures just 76mm (2.99 inches) in diameter x 96mm (3.78 inches) in length. It weighs in at a mere 524 grams (1.16 lbs.) and has a filter diameter of 67mm.
This makes the new lens 106 grams lighter than the Sony FE 35mm F1.4 Distagon T* ZA lens (Amazon, B&H), 3mm smaller in diameter and 16mm shorter in length.
According to Sony the FE 35mm F1.4 GM boasts advanced optical technology that delivers stunning contrast and superb resolution.
There are two XA (extreme aspherical) elements that effectively maintain superb resolution throughout the image area. An ED glass element and other optical refinements effectively suppress chromatic aberration and purple fringing.
The 11-blade construction helps to deliver an almost circular aperture, along with spherical aberration control at both the design and the manufacturing stages that contribute to beautiful G Master bokeh to help make subjects really stand out.
The minimum focusing distance is just 27 cm along with a maximum magnification of 0.23x (in autofocus mode) to help maximize your creativity options.
Two of Sony’s XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors provide the high thrust efficiency needed for precise AF (autofocus) and tracking. While Sony’s state-of-the-art control algorithms developed specifically for the XD Linear Motors, improve control response and precision whilst minimizing vibration and noise for fast, smooth and silent AF performance.
Linear Response MF ensures that the focus ring responds to subtle control when focusing manually. The focus ring rotation translates directly to a corresponding change in focus, so control feels immediate and precise.
The lens body features a focus hold button that can be assigned to several other functions in-camera and a focus mode switch. There’s also an aperture ring with switchable click stops that can be turned off for movie shooting.
As with all GM lenses it also features a dust and moisture resistant design along with a fluorine front element coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants.
