Sony has introduced three new full-frame E-mount prime lenses: a 24mm F2.8 G, 40mm F2.5 G and a 50mm F2.5 G.
All three lenses have the same price tag of $599.00 (US) and the same dimensions of 64 x 45mm (2.5 x 1.8 in.). Both the 40mm and 500mm also weigh the same at 173 g (0.38 lb), whereas the 24mm is just a little lighter at 162 g (0.36 lb).
Aspherical elements have been used in all of the lenses to maintain high resolution and reduce aberrations, the 24mm and 50mm lenses also use ED (extra-low dispersion) glass to reduce chromatic aberrations and fringing.
Dual linear motors are used for fast and quiet autofocus. The minimum focus distance is 0.18m (7.1″) for the 24mm, 0.25 m (9.84″) for the 40mm and 0.31 m (12.2″) for the 50mm.
The 40mm and 50mm have magnification ratios of 0.23x and 0.21x, respectively, while the 24mm is 0.19x.
Each of the lenses has a physical aperture ring, which can be clicked or de-clicked, a linear-response manual focus ring, an AF/MF switch, and a customizable focus hold button.
The filter diameter of 49mm is shared by all three lenses and Sony claims that these metal-clad (aluminum) lenses are weather and dust-resistant, and each lens comes with a rubber gasket seal around the lens mount.
All three lenses will cost $599 (US) / £630 / €700 each and should start shipping in Europe in April and May in the US.
