Sony has announced a free license update for the Sony ZV-E1 vlogging camera that will enable 4k120p and 1080/240p video recording.
Please note the following regarding this update:
- Installing the license without using a Sony account. Since the obtained license information cannot be managed, a license must be reissued for each installation.
- The ZV-E1 can add 4K 120p recording to its movie recording mode and 4K 120fps and Full-HD 240fps recording to its S&Q (slow-motion/quick-motion) recording mode.
- 4K 120p recording is available only with Long GOP inter-frame compression.
The update license can only be downloaded from Sony’s Creators’ Cloud website.
Although this specific update is free I wonder how long it will be before Sony starts to charge for feature updates that could probably of been included from launch?
Going forward will we be seeing cameras crippled on release only to have a bunch of features added later via paid license updates?
