Hello and welcome to my dual card slot setup guide for the Sony a7 IV.
In this short video guide I’ll explain all the different ways that you can setup your Sony a7 IV to record to its two memory card slots.
For example, you might want to record RAW files to both memory card slots simultaneously, or alternatively you might want to record RAW files to slot 1 and JPEGs to slot 2.

If you are looking for further help and advice on the a7 IV or would simply like to share your photos and videos, then please head over to our friendly full-frame Forum. If you prefer Facebook then we also run the Sony A7 IV Shooters Group.
Please note that if you want to shoot simultaneously to both card slots then there’s no benefit to using a CFexpress Type-A card in slot one, as you will alway be limited by the maximum speed of the SD card in slot two.
However, if you shoot in sort mode and record RAW images to slot 1 and JPEGs to slot 2 then there is still a benefit to using a CFexpress card in slot 1. Also providing you use a fast SD card such as the Kingston Canvas React Plus cards then you won’t hit the buffer shooting in Hi+ drive mode with compressed RAW images to slot 1 and JPEGs to slot 2.

Hi Tim,
I keep finding that my sort recording and drive mode settings are not being saved to the shutter priority mode when I turn off the camera or switch settings. The settings when I switch back to shutter priority always revert to single shot and jpeg slot 1 only. Is there something that I am doing wrong?
Cheers,
Tamara

Hi Tim,
It’s Tango again. It’s just a funny question but I wonder if you’ve tried to Record into just 1 slot, with auto switch on and see if the camera switches to the other slot when buffer is filled. Or it only switches when the card is full.
Kind regards,
Tango

Hi Tango. No it wont switch to slot 2 when the buffer is full, only when the card is full. All the best, Tim
