Nice photo; good looking bird. But I wonder if it is indeed a kestrel. Looks more like a cooper's hawk. American kestrels (at least the ones I have seen in Illinois) have a black-white-black patch under their eyes.

Thanks. I always enjoy learning more about birds. I’ll have to broaden my horizons beyond the US.
