I am always moved by "the higher silences within." It was built in record time, twenty-five years, by a still unknown archtitect. The rich gave money, the poor gave labor. They hauled carts with limestone blocks on them and stopped every hour, for prayer and meditation.

Driving south from Paris on N20 the cathedral is revealed as you drive over a small ridge and seems to levitate in the wheat fields. Chartres is in a valley and the cathedral on a hill. Religious buildings have been constructed on this spot for over 2,000 years, back even before the Druids. This is a special place.

The cathedral is on the old pilgrimage trail. Imagine walking for two or three days towards that cathedral seemingly levitating in a wheat field off in the distance. It defintely has an effect.

I hope to go back again.
