He keeps coming back, lot's of natural food (bugs) to be had in our garden. He is also tolerating me quite well, allowing me closer and closer with each visit.

I don't understand the levitating bugs. Is he "tossing" them? Excellent shots BTW.

I have had people say to me on some of my bird shots that I should remove the dirt from the beak of the bird.
You can sort of understand what I told them.
I have never seen this bird before and the shape to this one is a little different that the main stream.
Love to see one even if it is in some sort of zoo type of thing.

Yes, after digging the bug out of the earth he tosses it into the air, open its beak and swallows it. I can now anticipate when he is going to do this and launch my 20fps Hi+ burst to catch the levitating bug almost each time.
This bird has tought me a lot about at which speeds to shoot non-flying but otherwise active birds, back-button AF or not, which AF area to use, even played with DMF a bit.

First time I was able to punch out of APS-C mode, had to make sure the focus range switch on the lens was at "full"
He allowed me to crawl to about 5m distance (pushing the flattened tripod in front of me), a record for me (no camo clothing, no camo on lens either).

Look out! Those birds are cannibals and he is just luring you close enough to eat. There will be a whole flock of them feasting on your remains. LMAO Great pics. That little guy likes having his picture taken. And you seem the guy to do it. You may have to set up an umbrella for him to relax under.

They have really become regular visits, especially after freshly cut grass.
At one time I could see 6 of them wandering around, unfortunately my loud uncontained (previous record count was 2) WOW spooked them off before I had the chance to go grab the camera. Now that the Summer is gone I can withstand better laying around mid-day in one spot waiting for them to show up. More often than not I don't even need to use APS-C punch-in mode anymore.
