Birds Birds... and then some :)

Shots from our second ever visit to Snettisham, Norfolk. The gathering of birds is like nothing else in the UK, over 200,000 birds of all species in one spot, including this huge flock of 90000+ Knot. As you can see the light was really nice as the sun rose, but my ISO was much higher than I'd like really, but trying to work out the ideal shutter speed for such a massive flock is tricky on the fly. I will shoot lower next time, and at f6.3, but to be honest, even doing so wouldn't have got me much below 6400 I reckon. Anyway, and incredible sight and sound. The birds are forced off of the mud flats by very high tides, and end up on the banks of the gravel pit behind, as shown in 2 of these shots. I will be back next year.

Wow, great shots. Must be stunning to see live. I know what you mean about high ISO yesterday - went to RSPB Arne but I think someone turned the lights out! Hardly got a useable picture but did see a female hen harrier - a first for me but too far away to get a reasonable picture in that light.

As a software developer by day, I can't imagine what Sony's eye auto focus algorithms do in a situation like that did the body get hot?
