An afternoon out at a local spot on the Norfolk Broads. The Owls have been showing well recently and didn't disappoint. The Hen Harrier that flew in after I put the camera away, not so much :)

Brilliant shots Kev. Such a gorgeous bird and stunning eyes. Looks like a really enjoyable day out too! It's nice to finally see springtime again :)

Thanks for sharing the photos, just as a matter of interest do you use flexible spot small. I'm quite new to this bird photography and using my A9II have had a bit of success with this focus mode. Hope to download some pictures eventually when I get my computer repaired. The 600mm lens is a cracker for birds in flight, but regarding settings I think you can bamboozle yourself with online YouTube help videos, I've found to keep the camera to a few basic settings and not get to worked up if I miss the shot. Thanks again for everyone that posts on here the pictures are amazing.

Hi Mike. It varies, I use 3 modes only though. All of these were taken using single centre and manually tracked, as they don't particularly fly fast, and single centre is what I use for every still or relatively still subject too. The reason I chose it for these shots is because of the busy backgrounds on most shots. Any of the other modes tend to lose focus on the subject as soon as they detect anything else in frame, especially when you are panning to keep up with the bird. If I am shooting on a clean sky though, I will always use expanded flexible spot with tracking, with tracking sensitivity on 1 - Locked On. The only exception to that is when I know the bird is flying toward me at speed, and I will use Zone in that instance, but for the most part, EFP is the one, it has very rarely let me down, and is very sticky once locked on. I took some shots of a Plover today, at about 80 yards, and it nailed them, though they aren't worth posting due to heat haze.

Hi thanks for the information it's always useful getting other people's settings, must admit I too have limited focus settings to a minimum, certainly use centre spot for still birds, nails it every time apart from when they hide in foliage.
