A BUNCH of Grass Snakes

Now here's something I've never seen before. I mean, I've seen grass snakes before, but not like this. Took these photos on yesterday's outing to a place called Rosenkällasjön in Linköping, Sweden. Actually pleasantly surprised by the quality of the 200-600 here. Worked great to capture decent photos of these guys.

Very nice find. I hope you don't mind me saying, but these shots are probably around 1.5-2 stops underexposed, so you are losing some detail. Obviously I don't know all of your settings, I can see you are shooting a high shutter speed with a low ISO, which is great if you have the light, but not so much otherwise. I took the liberty of downloading and lightening one in Photoshop, to give you an idea. This was with nearly 2 stops added and some shadow boosting and dehazing etc. Not perfect, as you always get some lighter sections in the background too.

As I say, I'm not criticising, it may be how you like your shots

Haha, sometimes I forget to change my shutter speeds after shooting something else. Happens quite frequently to be honest. I know some of these photos are a bit dark but I don't mind it too much to be honest.

They're not dangerous at least, but yeah, snakes creeps me out too to be honest. But when I'm prepared for them, I don't mind them too much. Sadly, that's rarely the case! ;D

I must have a good computer screen because I can tell that they're a little underexposed, but it doesn't bother me because the dynamic range is good.

On a separate topic, I like your style of always shooting from a low position for these and the bird photos so you always seem to get some foreground in your shots.

Thanks man! Yeah, I try to do that when I can. It almost always looks better when you're somewhat leveled with the animal you're trying to photograph.

Sometimes I get too shy though, if there's people around, and I bail out like a wimp. I don't like the attention, hehe.
