I don't know anything about black and white photographs. What are your thoughts on this as a print? Worthy? Suggestions?

Thanks for the feedback! I’ll make some adjustments.

Wow, that looks a lot better!! I wish that the cow s*&# wasn't so noticeable. Haha. Not sure if its worth a print.

I agree with @Brownie more contrast is better. The only thing I notice in the high contrast version is now the face is dark and the background is light. Your eye usually goes to the lightest part of a photo first. If it was my photo, I would add a dark vignette on the edges using Nik Silver Efex (a plugin that works with a few different programs - I use it with Photoshop Elements). Just my two cents.

I will give this a try! Thanks for the feedback.

I don't think a vignette will do anything to help the bright background immediately behind the steer, which is the most objectionable. The best way to approach this is to start with the original image and use a decent processing program to pull the background down some. If I were at home in Darktable I'd use tone equalizer to adjust to taste. The changes I made were done in MS Photo viewer because that's all I have at work.
I'll see if this is an option in LR. I need to get better at post processing.
