Birds Rainbow Bee-eater

[Ralph]

These come down from the north and breed in our area in Victoria as well as other area's and are good to see back each time Summer nears.
I like watching them glide about as it reminds me of a paper plane that you throw into the air to fly.
These look like one of them when gliding I think.

These are an interesting bird and they actually dig into the ground and go in about half a meter and then make a bowl at the end which is the breeding chamber. So they have to be a little careful coming back out of the hole on the ground. Oh, yer they do the digging themselves.

Thanks and each and every year we all wait for them to return and when they do it is a good highlight of the day to get them. They are a graceful flyer so it is good to watch them fly as well as being still.

European Bee Eaters are the same. We were lucky to have some breed near home this year, only the third time ever in the UK. They are a rare visitor.

European Bee Eaters are the same. We were lucky to have some breed near home this year, only the third time ever in the UK. They are a rare visitor.

Each year we get them in our area and only yesterday I when out birding and I almost stepped on 2 digging sites so I was happy that I didn't do that.
But you can almost set your watch by their return and is always a good site to see them. I remember last year while I was birding I was out bush and I came across a real lot of them.
What was actually happening is I found a spot where they were gathering in numbers so they could head north as a flock. So This again was something I was pleased to see.
I would say that you are right in these being the same bird as the ones you have in your part of the world. Thanks for looking and commenting.
