Sunrise Sunset Thread

I may have frost bite now but it was a great morning for a sunrise shoot!

Sunset on Blackheath. There is a cropped version of this in the 'Crow Thread' with a focus just on the first three light poles. I think I prefer the cropped version. Sony A7iv + Sony GM 70-200mm f2.8 OSS II.

A rare sunrise. Winter here is several months of rain. There was frost on the ground, and that was unusual too. I walk here every morning.

All sunrise shots at beach nearby, captured down 3 stops thereabouts. Finding that the dynamic range is quite ok and the sun isn’t blown out.

I got out of bed early and walked to the beach.

The A7iv heif format didn’t seem to accurately capture the colour gradients I was seeing. The iPhone was overstating them. The raw images in Lightroom, when pushed, seems to create radiating lines rather than smooth gradients. Maybe I’m just sh*t at Lightroom?

Heif file from cam (exported via iPhone photos app) kind of showing the light graduated, but not as intense as seen.

Raw image adjusted in lightroom - radiating lines instead of even graduations

Ok, in respect to my previous post, I can see now that I might only need to adjust the colour temperature to suit.

But, the image uploaded here is not displaying as it does on my mac. The lines, instead of an even gradient is back!

Finally, a break in the rain.

And the reflection of the sunrise in the cityscape (I turned 120 degrees left to get the next photo)

You find your spot well ahead of time and wait for sunset. Then an opportunity presents itself that could be nice, quick test shot and things look good. Just as the moment arrives someone walks right in front of you and the moment passes. Here's the test shot.

The light here is fantastic. Good eye, and a nice job!

Appreciate the comment mate. It was a cloudless sky so I knew the big sunset cityscape image was going to be a waste of time. Wanted to get a bit more intimate with it, I don't know I guess the dragon flies must have set the mood or something...

Was very happy with these results. 🙂
