Landshut Wedding 2023

After about 12 years from first being told about the Landshut Wedding I was finally able to attend. This event takes place every 4 years in Landshut Germany (little east of Munich) over 4 weekends. This is basically a renaissance faire taking over a town but with the cast being more proud and having more fun.

This isn't my typical photo style since it is basically all people and generally I avoid those in my photography. Photos are in a small size just so I don't spam with meh shots. I'll be adding more from the games and events.

The Landshut Wedding is one of the largest historical pageants in Europe. It commemorates the wedding between Hedwig Jagiellon, daughter of the King of Poland, and George, the son of the Duke of Bavaria at Landshut.

Some images from the Festive Games in the Night Camp. It was a little dark and the event lighting was basically done with two bonfires.

The "commoners" were all in place before the dignitaries parade so they had a ladder race:

These were the last ones in the parade but ones I'll give context to. These two are Duke George of Bavaria-Landshut and Hedwig Jagiellon of Poland. The two that get to represent them go through a selection process and are young leaders of the community.

My shutter speed was too slow for the flag teams, I didn't take any of the "dancing" which difficult to tell what was happening and the final horse jousting type thing in which burning bags were knocked off posts was just way too dark to come out. Some of the games:

Wrap this up with images from the Knightly games. The first part was a repeat of am event from the fair games, the second event I don't have any good images because people in front of me kept moving into frame too much and the final part was full armor jousting. There was an injury but the rider is expected to make a full recovery, none of those shots are shown. I think the riders need to train the horse more for the jousting as I believe this was a tributing cause of the injury.

David, these images are great! These events make our Renaissance Festivals look like mickey mouse operations. Florida RenFest for example has rotating themes, different one per weekend, but nothing as cohesive as what is displayed here. Very cool.

I will say that the PA Ren Faire has better production value but then again it is a professional event. This event is all volunteer with all the "actors" being residents of Landshut and they put this on for 4 weekends every 4 years. Clearly the people highly enjoy the event and it shows.
