One of only 2 Monotreme species in existence and I'm fortunate to be a volunteer worker at possibly the best location in the world to view them in the wild.
This shot from the Tasmanian Arboretum.

Very hard to spot in the wild. In my younger days I kayaked the Mitchell River in Victoria many times, it's one of the few places that I've managed to see them regularly. My personal record was six over a two day paddle, only once ever as close as this. Nice work.

Awesome and weird creatures. Lovely to see.
