  1. Yes
Cormorants on our local Mill Pond. They can look quite stunning in the bright sunshine, really bringing out the glossy sheen on the feathers. The last shot is a juvenile, just starting to get his green feathers.

Great shots Kev! There's a reserve near to me with comorants but it's closed right now :( Hopefully they open again next month.

Well done Kev, good series of shots there. Did your A7R4 + 200-600 combo have the issues with focusing? I had terrible problems with mine but after the last update it is much better, not what I want it to be but at least its workable now.

Cheers Tim, thankfully this place is less than a mile away. and is a pond in a housing estate basically. It has a resident Kingfisher too, but he doesn't sit in view very often.

Cheers. I've never had any issues with mine at all, but I've studied the posts of those who have with interest. It seems that there is now a confirmed issue with some of the sensors on the RIV.

I love their green eyes
I shot them during the military air show in Paris for the French national day, right in the center of Paris

Very nice! I often see Cormorants when I'm out kayaking, but then I usually only have a gopro to take pictures (which is darn-near pointless).

Cheers. Yes I can imagine they aren't exactly great for stills, especially when bobbing about in a Kayak.

Imagine if you will: you're bobbing up and down on a kayak, the birds are about 10 meters away and all you have to capture them is a dinky sensor with the full frame equivalent of a 16mm lens 😅

Awesome shots Kev! We have a pond right near my work that always has cormorants, and I used to always wonder why they sat there with their wings open. I used to think it was to create some kind of shadow or silhouette to help when fishing, but nope...it's to dry their feathers out. Interesting birds for sure! Great captures!

Thanks a lot. They are a much maligned bird, especially by fishermen, and they do affect fish stocks, but no more than Herons do really. I think they are quite spectacular in the right light (as these show).

They open their wings to dry up. They need to take out all the air bubbles from their feathers to dive efficiently (they are excellent swimmers) and then take out all the water to fly efficiently.
