How do you find the 2x on the 70-200 MKII. I am going to hire one next week to give it a try as a cheaper way of getting to 400mm for photographing birds.

I love the 2.0xTC on the 70-200mm MKII, it works a treat for me. Sometimes its a little more difficult to get AF, but a part from that it's great. I haven't found any issues with the quality of the images. I've posted quite a few photographs in this forum with the 2.0xTC so you can find some examples.

In my experience you will find a drop in quality when shooting low contrast subjects...particularily white birds against a bright background
