I did ask him before taking it, I guess it is the shutter speed a bit low and the lighting, it is just a bit flat looking. I took this at the same time and others so I guess it is driver error Ed

My first reaction was, "Well, throw it back and catch another." But I guess it's too late for that.

The busy-busy stuff in the pic. like all that stuff around him, have got all the light and the guy is more like a hole in the middle. I'm sure post-processing is your friend and you light him up a bit (especially skin tones) and dim down, perhaps even soften, the fishing gear.
