I walked about 3 miles around a local nature preserve this afternoon. I try to go pretty often but haven;t been since April. It was a hot day and the birds were vocal but not very visible. There were a lot of dragonflies so I got most of my shots of them. Here is a sample.
Hackberry Emperor Butterfly
Blue Dasher Dragonfly
Not entirely sure from this angle but I did see some Slaty Skimmer Dragonflies and this may be one.
This Carolina Saddlebags Dragonfly would hover longer than most of the others so I was able to get some shots in flight. I never saw it land.
I turned a corner and stepped onto a boardwalk to be greeted by this Red-Shouldered Hawk just 30 feet or so away. He took off when I turned to see another bird fly by.
I heard a Red-Eyed Vireo and must have spent 15 minutes or so trying to get a good look at it since I've never gotten a shot of one before. It finally flew out and I was able to follow it and get some shots.
A few minutes later I saw this Northern Cardinal with a grub.
