Underwood No. 5, as found, in an antique store. Fujifilm X-S10 35mm f/8 1/10 sec ISO 1250

I have started the long and arduous task of scanning all my old film (and hopefully my dad's too if I live long enough). I have completed the few 120 rolls I have and I am well into the 35mm black and white now. I believe this is one of the best photos I have ever taken. This was taken in 1985 in Venice, obviously, on a Pentax ME Super with, I think, a 50mm f 1.7 lens on Ilford XP1 400 chromogenic b&w film. Scanned on my Nikon Coolscan LS9000.

Absolutely superb. That's an arduous job, one that I have to do at some point too.

Thanks.

I got stuck in and did a lot a couple of weeks ago once I sorted out how I was going to sort it all and what scanner set up I was going to use but this last week I have been looking at it all, picking some favourites and editing/printing them. I really need to get back into the actual scanning...

With a point and shoot, I pointed and shot. And got reasonably lucky.

And, I guess, it launched my current hobby (unpaid career!) of photographing carnatic (South-Indian classical) music concerts, leading to an a6000, then an a6500, now an a7iv. And a bag full of lenses and stuff.

Later I was able to give a framed print to the senior lady vocalist. Proud to say that it hangs on her wall.
It’s what’s in the bag that counts. What you are doing is very nice.

Here's an old fun one of my girls at Bryce Canyon. The one on the left just graduated from High School.

German Wasps. Taken in 2020 with a Canon 7Dii. This photo won first prize in the Royal Entomological Society's Insect Week photographic competition that year.
They said “This brilliant image reminded the judges of those classic wildlife photography shots of antelope drinking around a water hole on the African savannah. To see this in a much-maligned insect like the wasp made for a striking and memorable photograph.”

As much as I hate them, I am allergic to the stings (former beekeper). My last sting in the mouth was fractions away from a lift in an ambulance.

That is an awesome shot.
