Took a trip to Sedona AZ to celebrate my friends' wedding. However, one does not simply go to Sedona without taking in the amazing landscape! Here's Day One at the Airport Mesa overlooking Sedona.

Balanced camera on a rock and set self timer to 10 seconds so I could run into frame:

I believe this range is Thunder Mountain:

This might be Wilson Mountain, I'm not sure:

She wasn't part of our group, but she seemed to be about the same business:

This caught my eye, but I wish now that I had taken one step to the left to make a cleaner composition:

Once again, balanced camera on a rock and set self timer to go and sit in-frame:

Looks like a very beautiful & interesting landscape. I do like the one of the dead tree with the cactus in the foreground. I would maybe crop it a bit. But I much prefer it in colour.

Thanks Richard. It was a great place, I can't wait to go back. I only got to see the mountains at sunset, didn't have my camera on me, pity because the light was pure magic.

Also, that city is a dark sky city, so I'll have to return another time during new moon and get into some astrophotography.

As for the dead tree photo, there was something to it, but I couldn't quite capture it. We were on a tight schedule, so I tried to be creative in a hurry and failed. I would have preferred to stay a while and try a few more angles, but that's vacation photos for you! Thanks for the input on the color vs b&w.

Loved Sedona these are a couple of pictures I took when I was there a few years ago .. One is called coffee pot mountain and the tree in the other picture amazes me how its survived .. Love your shots ... Gary

Lovely shots Chris. It definitely looks like a nice place for a hike. I don't think we would get very far with our boys at present though, unless I was carrying them!

Great shots! I remember flying into that airport. It has some dangers. I think it's a daytime only airport if you're new there. Also, IIRC, going one direction, "Landing long" has some very serious implications! It is a beautiful spot though.

Correct on all notes my friend. The city is designated as a dark site, so no landing lights or flood lights at night. Small planes and helicopters only. I saw several of them, but as I had my daughter on my back, the idea of spinning around to do a fast panning photo seemed... unwise.

At the time I flew in there, I was flying a Citation I jet, which is a small jet.

I had to look that up, very nice.
The largest thing I saw flying over head was a twin turbo prop of some sort (Piper? Beechcraft?) I am not the most knowledgeable on these things.

Day 2: My friends and I did the Courthouse Butte and Bell Rock Loop

Dope landscapes and rock formations. The fingers picture... I can't haha.

Day Three: West Fork Oak Creek Trailhead. Amazing change of ecosystem as the cactus and desert gave way to high country river and canyons.
