Definitely. Or green plovers or the old English name is peewit. A very special bird for me, I used to cycle past fields full of them on my way to school, hundreds, possibly thousands would take to flight and create mystical shapes in the air.

We still see reasonable flocks of them over the Halvergate marshes and Breydon water, but nothing like the flocks of my childhood.

Beautiful birds when seen up close, their iridescent feathers constantly changing with the light and their elaborate crests moving with the wind.

I came all over poetic for a while there, my family are from the fens and they used to eat them a generation or two back. Not particularly good apparently, but it was a hard existence.

Kev I have more shots that will show the colours on them better, but it is a question of finding time to edit :)
 
Did well there Gary , very difficult at times especially this time of year when they are doing their acrobatic display flights
