Sony A5xxx A5000 Replacement Kit Lens

So I've had my A5000 since May 2015, but have hardly used it given that most phones come with pretty decent cameras.

I found it out the other week to discover the kit lens that it came with was making a grinding noise when zooming and during initial power on of the camera.

I followed one of the YouTube tutorials for breaking it down and seeing if I could find anything amis with the internals, but everything "looked OK". However, when it was put back together, the camera no longer recognised the lens when fitted. Oh well, lesson learned!

I've ordered a replacement from mpb.com for £62 which is described as "excellent" used condition, so hopefully I can start using the camera again.

Its hard to compete with modern phones as, chances are, your phone isn't of the same vintage as your camera body
The one major difference is shooting in RAW on your camera and editing to your tastes, versus using your phone and letting its AI do that work for you... in most cases the latter is good enough for general population.
Still, the kit lens for the a5000/a6000 is at least cheap and easy to procure, hopefully it will get you back into using your camera!

Very true. I've had a Nikon D60 since 2008, and apart from a few dead pixels on the sensor, that's still going strong with the kit lens and a Tamron 55mm-200mm.

Current phone is an iPhone 13 Pro, and the camera is excellent on that, but looking over some of the pics taken back in 2015 with the A5000 they just "feel" better than the phone pics.

I probably need to properly look at the settings on the phone, because they seem to be post processed way to much.

You may get a kick out of this Matt: I gifted my a6000 to my mother who wanted to pick up photography as a retirement project. 18 months later, she's still using her cellphone to take pics and the a6000 lies forgotten in its camera bag somewhere in a closet.
I think we can all relate to the instant gratification of cellphone photography. It makes it that much harder to get back into cameras sometimes.

Replacement kit lens was delivered today, so the camera is back up and running.

Impressive service from mpb as well, was a little dubious buying 2nd hand, but the condition was exactly as described - excellent.

Lovely shot Matt! I only just noticed that you had posted here Glad to hear that you've got your lens sorted. I've bought and sold gear through MPB without any issues whatsoever. My iPhone 13 Pro can also over-processes images, clouds look horrendous sometimes.
