AF for sports settings

Hello. Been using A7C with 70-200 Sony lense for about a year now primarily for football and baseball action photos. I am struggling to get the setting back so that when in S mode, the green square boxes locks in and follows the subject so the focus is on the moving target. I have gone through the manual and many other places, cant seem to get this back set properly. Its stuck in center focus mode as set by the touch screen and im losing photos! Any guidance would be great.

What is your Focus Area setting?

So though some more trial and error, I have learned that Focus Area "wide" or "zone" both add the green motion tracking focus areas that I was looking for. Center, Flexible Spot, expand flexible spot, and tracking wide (the other focus area options) do not present this tracking mechanism. Does this sound accurate to you? And am I missing somethings as it relates to trying to get great focused shots for action photio such as football/baseball? thx.

For sports the ideal is “zone tracking” and ”spot tracking”, don’t know if A7C has either, maybe both too cpu demanding for it.
