Geff, I have noticed several pics w black backgrounds here lately, while the subject stays from fairly-to-quite visible against backgrd. So I'm just curious how it's done w/o a light-box. I assume it's done with post s/w image sliders to adjust background. Or using masks? Or PS Cam Raw paint tool? What's your secret sauce?

Thanks for the question. I do use spot metering on the subject and try if possible to have a dark background when shooting. I convert the image to B&W in PS and use a lot of dodging and burning in order to make the background black. Sometimes I'll use a mask to isolate the subject and thus can change the background if needed.
