In the grounds of the 'Pig in the Forest' hotel in Brockenhurst, just off to the side of the front gardens are the graves of three faitful friends, Pluto, Sam and Moses. I'm guessing they were the dogs of the previous occupants/owners of the grand country house. Originally, it was an early 17th-century New Forest groom keeper's lodge that was later run as a hotel by Brigadier John Doyle, of the Conan Doyle clan. In later life it was Whitley Ridge, a Michelin-starred restaurant and contemporary-country hotel that closed in February 2011 and was tranformed to the Pig in the Forest Botique Hotel.
The grave stones read: (left stone) Pluto, Faitful Friend, 1903; (middle stone) Sam, Best of Dogs, 1904; (right stone) Moses, A Mighty Hunter and a Sad Dog, June 28 1911. I'm pretty sure of text, but not sure of the dates as they are hard to read.
