Barred Owl - as the sun was slipping into night, this lone Barred Owl effortlessly glided through the dense tropical vegetation. Image taken on Pine Island, FL Camera: Sony Alpha 1 + FE 400mm f/2.8 GM.

Barred Owl – I’m really starting to like how the defused sunlight enhances the feathers of the Barred Owl, as it flies under the thick canopy of trees in the swamp. Image taken in Pine Island, FL Camera: Sony Alpha 1

My first cuckoo. Unfortunately from quite a long way off so it's heavily cropped.

Caught the cuckoo again this morning but still quite a distance away from me so it's a heavy crop again.

The Launch of a Barred Owl - catching the launch is probably the most rewarding capture. In some species of birds it generally happens after they do a #2. My experience tells me with Owls that's not the case. It comes with holding the camera on them until that moment, often to the point of having to lower it and of course then they launch and you don't get the picture. of NW Cape Coral Florida - these little owls are very unpredictable when it comes to photographing them in flight. They are extremely leery of anything flying above and can fly down their burrow without ever slowing down. Camera: Sony Alpha 1 + FE 400mm f/2.8 GM May 23, 2024

Last picture not BIF, but it was the same bird with a catch. Theese are quick little buggars to get good shots of!

Barred Owls-have a wingspan of 39 to 43 inches. Females are generally larger than males, although the difference is far more distinct when comparing their weights. Having one fly directly at you gets your undivided attention quickly! Image taken in South Florida on May 29, 2024 Camera: Sony a7Rv +70-200mm f/2.8 GM II

Barred Owl In-Flight: The more I shoot the FE 400mm f/2.8 GM the more it becomes my go to lens when shooting Barred Owls. Last week I used the 70-200mm f2/8 GM II and it just didn't pair with the Alpha 1 like the 400mm. I've also used the 600mm and frankly it's a lot of lens for these birds.
