I thought I'd be photographing animals close-up, so I took the 70-200. But when you get a raptor gliding through the sky, you have to point the camera at it, don't you? Made me wish I had the 300, but I'd left it at home. Maybe I need a two camera harness? And weight training!

This is a black kite who glided across my field of view - this was the first wingbeat in several seconds of flight (I chose this shot because it had the best light)

This is a 2000x2000 crop from the 6000x4000 frame (what you are seeing is pixel for pixel from the frame I shot). I liked the framing by dead tree limbs. Reminds me that I used to think that 24Mpixel was too little to allow a decent crop. I was wrong.

Shot using the 70-200mm f/2.8 GM II at f/2.8, 1/10000, ISO 250 (bright morning light this morning, despite the cold: 7 degrees Celsius)
