I’m a couple weeks off hanging around a beach sipping Pina Colada from coconuts while someone braids my beard and manicures my nails sunset after sunset in a Bali resort.

I may photograph some foods, some beach, sunsets and such other stuff which walks past my deck chair.

Lately I’ve been designing a storage kit. The foam layout indicated is a mock-up, subject to fine tuning prior to marketing and final production. See the link below for details.

So, I’m now contemplating a more traffic-able case for travel, with camera body and up to three lenses.

What would you take on holidays to Bali?

I'm giving it some thought myself. Will be passing through (several times) shortly whilst poking around Indonesia. On the trail of wild Orang Utans, Komodo dragons and if I can shift the throat infection I've picked up, Manta ray.

I believe though we'll only see the airport on Bali.

For me the 70 - 200 f2.8 is a must, such a versatile lens, especially with the 1.4 TC.

A second body with a shorter zoom is a must for me when travelling. I really don't like changing lenses on the go.

I adore Malaysia and travel there several times a year. I’ve never seen Borneo but orangutans in a natural environment? That would be an extraordinary thrill.

I have not been traveling by plane as much lately, but due to differing airline gate agent0 attitudes about weight in carry-ons, I tried to keep my equipment list down, so it was two full frame bodies, 14mm, 24-70 zoom, 70-200 zoom, and maybe the TC 1.4 and RX1R II, some batteries, 2 chargers, a number of cards, two small ssd drives, and my lap top.

Last long flight I was on I took a ThinkTank Airport Advantage (a black roller, like so many cabin baggage bags) with two full frame bodies and 8 lenses. It weighed 13kg, and was nearly rejected, except that I had booked business class and been upgraded to first, so I got away with it :) That was several years back, though. Not sure I'd try it these days, especially if I was in economy.

I’ve been getting healthy and I lost 10kg. I bet they won’t take that into account when I lob up with my suitcase full.

Suggest if you are single, for trips to indonesia/bali,ditch the cameras and take a case of condoms and viagra.....Ha Ha.....!

Losing weight myself. I must remember to try that argument next time: “I lost 20kg this year - don’t complain about 10kg of camera gear!” - anyone think that will work?

We booked this trip a few years back after returning from Uganda where we trekked to see wild Gorillas. It was such a physically demanding trek, we thought we'd better try and see Orangs while we were fit enough to do it.

The trip got cancelled 3 times due to obvious reasons and some water has gone under the bridge. Not sure how fit I currently am, but will have a fair stab at it. We are also visiting an Orang rehabilitation centre, so one way or another we'll get to see some of these incredible, majestic creatures in their natural environment.

Having given it some thought, I'm wondering if the 100 - 400 might be a better choice. The bird life along the way is bound to be eye catching. Don't want to go the whole hog and lug the 200 - 600 around.

Enjoy your trip. One of the biggest disappointments of my professional career, was a docudrama , that was canceled at the last minute beacuse of huge underground fire. The story we were shooting was about the study of Orangutans in Borneo. We had done lots of prep from shots, to custom carnets, visas, even training on how to interact with the Orangutans, The day we were supposed to fly out from LA, they pulled the plug on the production because the smoke from the fire was so thick they could not get production insurance. Basically they could not guarantee, their ability to fly the crew out if things got worse. It would have been an amazing experience, I had just worked with the same production company on another project in the Maasai Mara in Kenya that was one of the most amazing times I ever had on location.
