Ok I was on a walking tour around Lucca Tuscany and spotted these swifts, martins please correct me if you can Id, so 40 plus people ear pieces in, I see these and wonder off I have 3-4 minutes to grab what I can including changing lens to 100-400 before I get the ear hole bashing from the guide for not following and listening. so they are what they are but buggers to nail

Swifts to my eye.

Nice shots, they are the masters of the skies.

Well caught. They are not an easy thing to catch in flight. They are Swifts.

Excellent Gary.

Thanks Dave this maybe the second or third time I have tried to nail these bullets, so a work in progress hopefully will get it right a some point (y)

Yep rubbish on bird id Iain thanks I would like to get measure of these at some point

They are swifts , the indented tail design and narrower back facing wings are the give away.......

Nevertheless Martins, Swallows or Swifts, yes they are Buggers to capture and the shorter the
focal shooting distance the harder they are to shoot...on account of the higher relative velocity.

When I first got the A7RV I committed half an hour one day to getting a shot of some tiny things like these, and I was happy enough with my results to not go back to that again yet. I like to relax with my photography and shooting these is pretty intense so I can't see myself doing it too often.

Its a challenge, but good fun to brush up those shooting skills occasionally.

Yep Clint these were just there I was supposed to be looking at buildings and listening on the ear piece to the guide so having had a run in with sand martins I did what I could in the 3-4 minutes I had (y)

Amazing that you got anything in that quick time at all! I was watching their flight patterns for about 5 minutes seeing if there is some reoccurring behaviour there before I even contemplated pulling the camera to my eye. 😄

200mm- 600mm is not the best lens for fast moving images such as these birds, dependant upon the shooting distance....i find the 70-200 with or without
the 1.4 Tc provides for faster panning etc and generally i try to get as close as i can to make this lens with the A1 camera effective for focus and cropping as required......
