A little while ago, but may still be of interest... The problem with photographing the comet from the UK is that when it was at its brightest, the sun was never far enough below the horizon for it to be completely dark, and to make things worse, it was toward the sun, so moving west to east below the pole. So it was a choice between getting it when it was darkest, but it was also closest to the horizon, or when it was higher in the sky but the sky was a bit brighter. These were the best two..
