I shot a Cross Country Meet this afternoon for the first time with my Sony camera. In looking back at previous meets that I shot with my Pentax gear I decided rather than use a 28-70 lens and 70-200 lens I would try shooting with just my Samyang 35-150 f/2-2.8 lens. I did make the mistake of switching to APS-C mode and forgot to switch back. Overall I was pleased with the experiment. The times were pretty quick in the meet and I had to run to get back to the finish line ahead of the runners. I've shot many meets here so I do have my spots picked out. After shooting the start I moved to the first gate heading out of the stadium.I then headed into the woods to catch them coming through on the first lap. Here you can see the second runner running through a small limb that protruded into the path. After the main group passed I broke off the limb. After the first lap I moved out of the woods and caught shots of some of them heading back towards the entrance to the woods on the second lap. There is a bridge as they exit the woods so I generally set up there to catch them as they exit the woods on the second (and final) lap. While the leaders tended to be spread out, I did have some moments to catch groups. At this point I realized that the leader (shown here) was getting near the final stretch to head back into the stadium and I had to run to get back before him if I wanted to get a shot at the finish line.I did get back just in time and was out of breath. One of my favorite shots of a sprint at the finish.

At this point I realized that the leader (shown here) was getting near the final stretch to head back into the stadium and I had to run to get back before him if I wanted to get a shot at the finish line.

I did get back just in time and was out of breath.

One of my favorite shots of a sprint at the finish.
