Good evening, my name is Peter and I live on the south coast of the UK. mainly into wildlife photography but happy to give anything a go, I’m far from a pro but am very keen and take constructive criticism well ! Current kit is Sony A1 & A9ii bodies with 600 f4, 400 f2.8, 200-600 G, 100-400 GM, 70-200 GM mk1, 135 f1.8 GM, 24-70 f2.8 Sigma, 24-105 f4, samyang 14 f2.8 and both Sony e mount teleconverters 1.4/2.0. I’ll try to upload a kingfisher photo from my local river but first post syndrome my mean no photo but here goes.

Sony A1 600f4 2.0 tele 1200mm 1/4000 sec f10 iso 2500 -0.7 EV

What are peoples thoughts on sharpness especially with 2.0 tele.

Welcome!

Welcome Peter and thank you for joining up here. I see you've already upgraded to the pro membership so thank you very much again for helping to support the site! Stunning shot of the kingfisher, they are beautiful birds. I really must get down to the river again and see if our local one is still around. It looks pretty sharp to me even with the 2x. I think at this distance you also have atmospheric conditions to contend with and typically need to bump the shutter speed as well, no issues at 1/4000 though! :) I've been using the 2x a lot on the new Sony FE 70-200 F2.8 GM II recently and it performs really well. If you have any questions about this forum please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you Tim, Interesting to know about the new 70-200 I have the original and never was happy with the focussing (speed & accuracy) with the 2.0 tele. Might be worth thinking about upgrading 🤔

Did you own the original 70-200 ? If so are the differences really as big as most reviews say ?

Yes I also have the original 70-200. The new one is a lot faster to focus and you really do notice the weight difference. I'm currently working on a comparison between the Sony 100-400 GM and the 70-200 F2.8 GM II + 2x tele focussing on the performance at 400mm. I really hope to get it finished this week before moving house. Once the house move is out of the way I'll work on a comparison between the original 70-200 and the new one. I need to get that done so that I can sell the original! :)
