Love to shoot birds and wilflife; i have an aRIII, an a6100, a Sony 100-400, a Tamron 17-28, a Tamron 28-200, and an RX10 IV ( which is a backup when I travel; also trying it out to c if I can dump all this other, one day ). Bought this gear Dec 2019; used it once in FL in Feb 2020; u know what happened after that

Hi, and welcome! Your mention of the RX10 IV caught my eye...... Back in the summer of 2018 I was going on a trip to a beach area where we would be attending a couple of waterside events plus a concert over the weekend. One of the waterside events involved a boat parade and I knew I'd want to shoot photos there, so started thinking about the camera gear I had at that time and realized that I really didn't have what would be needed -- also, even if I had a long lens for my then Nikon D3 that I was hesitant about changing lenses in the salty air with sand all around and also using that gear in a crowd where someone might jostle me or something else could happen. I need a new camera, I decided, something that'll work for this trip and maybe for other trips, too, in the future.....

Eventually learned about the RX10 IV, went to my local Best Buy and handled one, decided it would definitely fit my needs, especially for this upcoming beach trip, and bought it. Used it for the trip and loved it, and after I returned home I realized that it was perfect, too, for walking around the small lake where I live and of course also for going to places like botanical gardens, zoos, etc. I found myself using that camera on a daily basis from then on!

Time passed and eventually I realized that I was ready for another interchangeable camera system because I missed being able to do certain kinds of shooting (i.e., macro and closeups, tabletops, etc.). It was time to move on from my Nikon gear and to jump into the mirrorless world completely with a full-frame camera and a few lenses. In November of 2019 I made the big switch and came home with a Sony A7R IV and two macro lenses plus the fast 135mm. I kept my RX100 IV and still use her quite a bit, especially when I look out the window and see some interesting goose or cormorant action happening out on the lake. The camera sits out on a table, ready to grab and run out on my deck. I love the RX10 IV and the only reason I'd ever give it up would be if Sony brings out an RX10 V!

That camera also served as the gateway, opening the floodgates, actually -- to my getting back into photography is a serious way and I am loving my current Sony gear. Over time I've added lenses as I've found the need and each one has its own unique role in my photographic life. My timing was good, too, as by the time the pandemic hit, I had the A7R IV and lenses and was quite content during the time we were all confined pretty much to home, as I could still shoot either indoors or go out and walk around the lake, camera in hand.....

The 100-400mm is one of my favorite lenses; I bought it in June 2020 when I realized that I needed a good walk around lens that wasn't as heavy and awkward as the 200-600mm. That lens has captured squirrels, geese, cormorants, Great Blue herons......and it's great for shooting closeups of flowers and foliage, too! A versatile, amazing lens!

Oh man, do I ever! I bought my a6400 to start travel vlogging, and aside from that being a terrible idea, 2020 put the final nail in that coffin.
