Sony A7 IV How to assign "Bright Monitoring" to a button?

I've installed the v4 firmware.

On this forum's page regarding the v4.00 firmware benefits and improvements, it states:

"Allows the use of Focus Magnifier and Auto Magnifier in MF while using the Bright Monitoring feature"

I looked up Bright Monitoring in the Sony online manual and it says you can assign this function to a button:

1. MENU → (Setup) → [Operation Customize] → [
   
   Custom Key/Dial Set.] → assign the [Bright Monitoring] function to the desired key.
2. In a still image shooting mode, press the key to which you assigned the [Bright Monitoring] function, and then shoot an image.
   
   • The brightness due to [Bright Monitoring] will continue after shooting.
   • To return the monitor brightness to normal, press the key to which you assigned the [Bright Monitoring] function once again.

However, when I do this, the Bright Monitoring function is not listed and I do not see it under any of the other menu settings. Am I just missing something or is this function not actually there?

Assuming it is there, has anyone else used this feature?

If I recall correctly you can assign this to a custom button but not every custom button for some reason.
Try another button, I did have it assigned at one point but i removed it and decided to put it on the 1st of the user menus.
This is using the A1 so it’s possible the A7IV is similar in it’s implementation.

Thanks for the suggestion. I took a look at assignments for all of the buttons and "Bright Monitoring" does not show up as an option for any of them. I like your suggestion of adding it to My Menus, but to do that I would have to find it somewhere in the menu hierarchy. I've looked again for it and it doesn't seem to be anywhere. Does anyone know where it might be located? The Sony manual page does not indicate any location other than as a custom button setting.

Hi, I had a look at the manual for this model.

Have you set this dial to the camera icon prior to going into the menu for setting the custom button? I think you may need to. Sorry I can’t confirm as I dont have that model.

Yes, the camera dial is set properly. I'm now thinking that this feature isn't actually part of the 4.00 firmware upgrade, despite the notes to the contrary.

Does anyone who has installed the 4.00 update on the a7 IV see Bright Monitoring anywhere?
