This is a BEAUTIFUL lens, works great with the Sony A-mount cameras, and can be used on E-mount bodies with the adapter. This was the very last version of the Minolta full frame prime 300mm f2.8 and the auto focus works with the newer cameras. This is Japanese-made and the highest quality, top of the line lens that Minolta made. There are TONS of settings no the lens itself. I've used this for the last several years shooting wildlife in Grand Teton and Yellowstone and it makes beautiful images.

The lens and all items are in excellent condition. Clean and solid, the glass is clear with no fogging, scratches or mold. The only way you can tell it isn't brand new is a few minor cosmetic marks on the body and a rub on the hood. This is the most complete version of this lens you will find. It comes with:
  • Sony MINOLTA AF APO 300mm F2.8 D SSM Japan, serial #11101185
  • Minolta AF 1.4x teleconverter with case
  • Original drop-in circular polarizer filter with case
  • Original lens hood
  • Original lens cap
  • Original padded case/front cap
  • Original, molded locking lens case (and two keys) -- will hold everything pictured except the teleconverter
  • Original strap for lens and case (latter never installed)
  • Original Minolta paperwork and instruction manual

What does the Set far/near switch do?

What does the Set far/near switch do?

According to the manual, it's to specify the focus range. I've used it at times if a subject is moving toward or away from the camera in a predictable manner to help keep the AF where I want it, especially if there is a busy background or foreground.
