Friday, my Wife and I visited the Cosumnes River Preserve near Galt, California. This Preserve is 50,000 Acres. We only saw a small part of it so we will return since it is 17 miles from our home. I shot 268 images in all. I have posted 56 or so images on Flickr if you would like to see a few more than my sample here. Forgive me but this is my first foray in to Birding and I have yet to identify all of the birds in this shoot. There are a couple identified on Flickr. Also, I wanted to caption a couple of these photos, but I don't know how. If someone could help me out, I would appreciate it.

Some cracking images there Jeff and looks a great place

Great stuff, and now, you will be hooked :) ID not so easy for me, as not UK species, though image 1 is a Shoveller, and some of the Geese look like Greylag.

Great work Jeff, that does look like a nice place to have practically on your doorstep! You will be saving up for the 600mm F4 now :) The only real way to caption an image is by simply writing a little something before inserting it, let me know if you have any trouble doing that.

Wow what a great place and great photos too..

1: Northern Shoveler
2: Greater White-fronted Goose
3: Western Bluebird
4: Greater White-fronted Goose
5: American Coot
6: White-crowned Sparrow

9: Greater White-fronted Goose
10: Greater White-fronted Goose

Cosumnes River Preserve and the nearby fields is winter home to many Sandhill Cranes, did you see any of these? Woodbridge Road west of I5 is also good for Sandhill Cranes.

Thanks for the names, Doug. As for the Cranes, take a look here at photo # 2022-02-04_206. I'm assuming that these are Sandhill Crane but I'm betting you will know. We tried to get closer to them but we ran out of time.

Yup! Sandhill Cranes. On Desmond Road?
Thank you Doug. I tried to get closer with the car but I wasn't familiar enough with the area. My first time here and it was getting late. It won't be my last visit here, I assure you.
