In December, Viltrox released its excellent 35mm to the social media influencers to create buzz for pre-orders. I jumped on that bandwagon and was very happy with it: https://www.alphashooters.com/community/threads/new-apsc-35mm-lens-from-viltrox.10045/
Now there are rumors that Viltrox will be releasing a 25mm lens of the same style. To be clear, I don't think anyone knows for a fact that it will be 25mm, but Petapixel thinks so: https://petapixel.com/2025/02/21/we-think-we-know-what-the-new-viltrox-air-lens-will-be/
While I would prefer 23mm (to make a proper 35mm full-frame equivalent), if this rumor turns out to be true, I think 25mm (37.5mm full-frame equivalent) would be a great option for APSC users to have. This would probably compete directly against the Sigma 23mm f1.4 for APSC. Sony doesn't even have an APSC lens at this focal length; the closest Sony had was a 20mm f2.8 pancake (which is older than 10 yrs at this point and discontinued).
Primes like these are a novelty for me, and I'm glad to see a low cost option which I expect to have decent performance.
