New Forest Dragon

The Bisterne Dragon is a legend from the New Forest in England. The story of the dragon dates back to before 1618. The dragon slayer was Sir Maurice Berkeley, lord of the manor of Bisterne - I wonder if Tolkien got some inspiration from this legend? I prefer the Black and White image, what do you think?
