I was walking around my sister in-law's house with a 35mm lens and I thought maybe I would try to shoot this old chicken coup and the open hill beyond as a panorama. Well, the composition wasn't great to begin with, but what is going on with the dark patch on the left 3rd of this final product? Its a 5 photo panorama merge in ON1, and I made sure to synch the settings on all photos before the merge, but somehow this is how it ended up:

  • Sony E 35mm f/1.8 OSS
  • 35.0 mm
  • ƒ/8
  • 1/160 sec
  • ISO 250

It does appear to be that. I found that when I get this it is sometimes caused by an area that is overlapped with more than one image. If that is the case you will want to remove the middle of the 3 images.

I’ve never seen that before. Did you use the exact same settings in camera for all shots? I have never used ON1. I know there is a panorama stitching software that is now free. I’m not at home at the moment but later I’ll post a link & you can give it a try.

I've found that the panorama stitching in On1 often gives me weird or poor results. For panoramas I now mostly use the legacy Microsoft program Image Composite Editor. It's no longer supported by Microsoft but can be found as a free download from various sites via Google.

I'll check the raw files again, but yes, same settings and manual focus for all 5 pics

I have Adobe elements, maybe I'll try it with that program as well.

This time I exported the individual photos (6 of them) to jpg and stitched them in Photoshop Elements 2022 (panorama mode: perspective). Better results; though the verticals were more vertical in the ON1 edit.

I suspect something was acting strange with the use of ON1 to merge RAW files into a panorama. A little disappointing for my favorite editing software. I have some more panoramas to make from my trip to Arizona back in September. I'll try those later.

If anyone does want ICE here is a link to a download file from my OneDrive: ICE-2.0.3-for-64-bit-Windows.msi
