It can be an interesting process to get a pleasing result. I sometimes use a longer lens (400) and move to a position which gives a dark background but with light on the subject. Easier to stand back a bit to give a better depth but retain a blurred background. This particular shot is of a very tiny orchid and I’m lighting it with twin flashes attached to the lens filter thread. I haven’t got stacking on my Sony gear but use it sometimes with the Olympus OM1.Another very interesting orchid pic @Slug. I have some cactus flowers which are about to open soon. I have never been able to get a good shot of them before. Having said that, I'm not a great flower photographer. I thought I might try the focus bracketing in my A7RV as I haven't used it yet. With these flowers, lighting is the biggest problem.
