It looks like Focus Camera LLC is saying that they have this lens in stock on Amazon. Does anyone know if this is legit?

Did you run a Google search to see if there is actually a website for Focus Camera, or a physical store location? Sometimes the vendors on Amz Marketplace don't have a physical store per se, and ditto for some vendors who back in the day used to advertise in the classified ads pages of camera magazines, all of which had Brooklyn, NY "locations" that upon investigation turned out not to be stores at all.

Now that I've probably unnerved you, yes, according to their website Focus Camera LLC seems to have two physical locations, one in Brooklyn, NY, and one in NJ. This is no guarantee of legitimacy, of course, and I would hesitate before placing an order for an expensive lens such as the Sony 600mm with them either through Amazon Marketplace or their own website. That's just me, though.

If you want a 600mm, maybe place an order with a vendor you know and trust and simply wait however long it will take for the item to arrive in your hands....

That's the plan. It's hard to pass up the impulse buy on a lens that I could get next week.

Well, if you've got the $13,000 plus state tax to casually toss out somewhere, go for it! That is a lot of money for one rather specialized lens and I am sure that Sony realizes that there aren't going to be a lot of customers (especially those who are not professionally engaged with a very profitable photography enterprise of their own or employed or contracted with an agency or company which pays for the thing) clamoring for one so they don't make many of these gems in the first place. Sure, there are some serious amateur photographers and the interest in the type of shooting which this lens would excel at who do have the deep pockets to buy one of these and they do just that....but overall, there probably are not that many of them.

If you do at some point get your hands on one of these beauties, please share the images with us! I know I am drooling with envy at the possibilities inherent in using such a lens.....

Isn't Amazon trustworthy and secure? Don't they take responsability for stuff they sell on their website regardless if the vendor isn't Amazon themselves?

You have to read the vendors contract with Amazon. For example, I purchased a product that went on sale a week later. The hassle of trying to get the product for the sale price would have involved shipping the product back (at my cost and with a restocking fee). Savings would have dropped to less than five dollars so I did not bother with the process. I also make sure to not purchase products from that vendor on Amazon anymore. Their gain in profit resulted in losing a customer and my recommendation to not consider then again. That vendor is ThePixelConnection.

I did check another product I purchased through Amazon and it was from Focus. I thought I have seen Focus being used as a link on the rumor sites for products so it might be legit.

But what is this thing called "sales tax"? :p I live in one of the few states that taxes me in other ways, no sales tax.

pointreyes says " I live in one of the few states that taxes me in other ways, no sales tax."

Amazing! I live in a neighboring state that taxes you in every conceivable way you could imagine, including Sales Tax.

But be careful pointreyes, your state is trying very hard to emulate my state. It's pretty sad.

Yeah, I don't understand the desire to be like CA. Portland, Eugene, and Medford seem to live in a different reality from the rest of us Oregonians but they are the ones that have the voting power.

Lived in the Sacto area for a little while but the only reason I lived there was to be able to enjoy Point Reyes. Had a good job but once that work dried up, I moved to Oregon. It has been over a quarter of a century since I lived there.

Maybe I'm dumb or something but why would one think that he or she was entitled to the sale price on an item if that item went on sale a week or more after the purchase?

There are retailers that will match the sale price of an item if it is within a certain time period.
It is called price adjustments: https://busywifebusylife.com/style/shopping-deals/price-adjustments-get-money-back/
Some retailers will do it but you have to go through the return process which I have done at Costco (they are quite generous with their time period of 30 days).
