I'm going to Japan for the snow monkeys in 2 weeks and have never used my A1's in the snow.
How do Zebras handle snow? Is it accurate, or is exposure compensation still required?
Thanks for any help offered -

Zebras all the way for me. I use them all the time. You just need to make sure you set them up correctly for your camera.

I just used exposure compensation.

Tthe purpose of zebra stripes is to warn of over exposure. However, with snow you are more likely to get under exposure, because the metering is trying to produce an image which is medium tone. As a result there is a danger of the snow being darker than it needs to be, especially if there is a lot of it.
If you shoot raw images then there will be little loss of shadow detail so you can adjust the exposure in post-processing with negligible loss of quality, but with JPGs this might not be the case.
Either way, it is a good idea to look at the histogram when shooting, and adjust accordingly.

Using zebras you can expose to the right. If the zebras are set up correctly you will get a much more accurate exposure than relying on the histogram which is more likely to underexpose.
