I have just noticed the difference in zoom settings but just to say there is nothing in it as far quality.

So your reverting to Nikon is primarily for ergonomics then?

That and the fact I am quite hard on my cameras probably due to my sports/press background and I have found the Sony's are not as robust as the Nikon's.

Fair enough. Ergonomics alone are a valid reason to switch (Every time I hold a Canon I get tempted to cheat on my Sony); but as you also have the years of experience with Nikon, I believe you if you say its built for more abuse.

The A1 and Z8/9 share the same sensor (though Nikon version is nerfed) so I really wouldn't expect a difference. Lets be honest even the cheap cameras from the big 3 have great image quality as long as the glass is decent.

Ergonomics is a strange thing. I've never been a fan of Canon or Nikon ergonomics (eg. turning Nikon lenses the wrong way to mount/unmount). Indeed I was a bit wary of the Sony also until I tried one in store. Once I owned it I got used to it very quickly. Everything just seemed to fall to hand. Especially with the customisation available.

I don't think that's true about the sensor being the same.

According to Techinsights:

the Z9 sensor is a Sony Semiconductor IMX609AQJ

but the A1 sensor is a Sony Semiconductor IMX610AQL

But we could have guessed that o_O

That said, yeah, they all make great images.

I believe that the sensors are Sony made but to Nikon specs so will be different as Sony is 50mp Nikon is 45mp.
