I don’t think it will be anything that I’ll be interested in either.

f/2 will mean it's going to be big and heavy.

I think I'll be happy staying with the 20-70 f/4.

So do I, as the 20-70 f4 is just perfect for my needs. But I guess this rumoured new lens will be aimed towards professional photographers of indoor events (like the upcoming Olympics?).

Or someone like me, who needs the focal range in a fast lens and would rather carry an f/2 zoom than a 24, 35, and 50 primes and have to change them in poor conditions. However, the added 20 over the rumored Sigma 25-50/2 doesn't do much for me, and I'm almost 100% certain a lens like that will be smaller/lighter/less expensive. I'm hoping Sigma does it as a 24-50 or even a 20-50 though.

The rumour says that there will be more superfast zoom lenses coming so who knows, maybe you have a 24-50 f1.8 in your way haha.

I've been happy with my 24-70 f/2.8. I can't imagine the price tag on this new lens to gain a stop? It's a hard pass for me.....

And, as I've already seen with the 85 f/1.8 there will be more CA to deal with in the f/2.0. I'm sure though there will be coatings to help with it, but still.

No worries, Sony hears you.

According to trusted sources we should get four new Sony E-mount lenses between now and early Summer:

A new video of Andrea Pizzini on this topic....but not really new information...

That image doesn’t look large enough for a 24-70 f/2 ;) And 1145g sounds fairly light, too.

Edited to add: that image looks very like the image of the 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II, doesn’t it?

If it’s real, and not a rumour like the 85mm f/1.2 that persisted for a long time (and now appears to be dead), then it may be very attractive to wedding photographers trying to shoot in dim churches and reception centres.

I would expect it to be seriously pricy, though.

And I just passed over the 24-70/2.8 GM ii in favour of the heavier but seriously cheaper Sigma. A Sony f2.0 GM zoom is not going to be possible/sensible.

But one can dream.

I'm using the 20-70 f/4 quite happily, although in all fairness, I should admit that I tend not to use shorter focal lengths a lot. I probably use my 300mm lens more often that I use any lens shorter than 50mm.

If Sony does announce a 24-70mm f/2 I shall look at the announcement with some curiosity, check the weight, and probably the price, so I can cheerfully report having saved that much money that I can then put towards an A1 mark II :-D

The 300 costs about as much as all the kit over bought over the past few years put together. But I do occasionally dream.

Current Full-frame kit: 35, 50, 85, 135 primes, 24-70, 70-180 zooms. I think I can make do (haha!) with that for now.

The 300 GM pre-order, the A9 III pre-order, and the A1 pre-order - all about the same amount. The A1 II will likely be about the same.

I think the Canon R1 is about the same, too.
