St.Alfege church is built on the site where St.Alfege (Archbishop of Canterbury) was martyered by the Vikings in 1012. The orginal church was constructed in 1290 and is where Henry VIII was baptised. After the church collapsed in a storm, it was rebuilt in 1712 to a design by Hawksmoor. General Wolfe (a local boy) who defeated the French in Canada is buried in the church. During WWII incendiary bombs hit the roof of St Alfege Church, which caught fire. The church was restored in 1946 and all the stained glass in the church is from this period.

Practice before a concert.
