The black & white gives it a deserved sobriety but also makes it look like a painting in some instances.
 
I knew a pilot who fought in the battle of Britain ... Alf Sizer his wing man was Raymond Baxter from Tomorrow's World fame I use to say to him what's the difference between flying a spitfire and flying a Hurricane his reply was you sat in a Spitfire and you sat on a Hurricane
 
I didn't know about this monument. Don't know when I'll make it back to London, but will definitely make a point of visiting it.

Amazing photos, really conveying intensity and power.
