The painted hall is the centrepiece of the Old Royal Naval College. It was painted in 1706-26 by Sir James Thornhill and depicts scenes of everyday life in His Majesty's Navy.

Great shots, when where you in Greenwich? There are lots of intersting stories behing all the painted scenes. An interesting bit if insight, in the fifth image is depicted King William III (with Queen Mary II seated on his right) seated on his throne, who was king of England, Ireland and Scotland. With his right arm King William receives an olive branch from the figure of Peace, and at the same time, in his left arm is the cap of liberty which he hands to the female figure of Europa. Also, you see a man wearing a maille shirt with a broken sword in his hand lying prostrate at the feet of the King of England, that is the King of France - symbolising the defeat of the old foe.
