  1. Yes
If you stand in just the right spot, there's a natural frame. When you move around a bit, you can see different things in the kinetic view.

Which do you like best?

Room to move (negative space) in front of the train engine

The engine is partially obscured, but the symmetry of the tanker cars is more apparent.

And finally, it's all about the tanker cars

I like the first one the best, but maybe I'd crop out the empty space in the top side, for a closer look at the train. Fantastic shots and atmosphere anyway, very well spotted!

Somewhere between the first and the second. The first is too cluttered and the second doesn't work too well with the front of the engine chopped off.
THIS. The train position in the first photo with the framing of the second shot.

Hey everybody. Thanks for all your input and suggestions.
How's this?
I kept the trees framing the view of the train on all sides.

Here's the original version (below)
Unfortunately, maintaining the aspect ratio meant losing the bench at the bottom. That bench is a landmark for the audience for this photo.

Here is the original version I posted on Instagram for that audience.

I like the first of your reframed photos.

For me, personal opinion only, the bench doesn't add anything. The train is the subject, right? I'm not sure you can have a "secondary" subject, and it is not sharp enough to be considered foreground interest. More problematic is the reflection of sunlight on the water that shines through under the bench and distracts the viewer from the subject: the train gliding through the morning mist.

Like I said, above is my take only. For locals who know the spot, I can 100% empathize with the desire to keep the bench in the photo so that they can say "Oh I know that spot, I love to sit there and watch the train pass!"

I also like the first cropped version above.
