Sony A7 III update - Tamron 50-400 :Go to Lens.

My “To Go” Tamron 50-400 lens – is all that that the reviews promised. Sharp etc.

BUT it is heavy.. 2lbs. Nor to long, just a bit bulky compared to what I am used to.

Is my Go To? Probably more like my - “Go Along” .. Great for long shots, which otherwise were unavailable. Great for birding. And the 50mm range is useful.

My last thought is the 4.5 is limiting in low light. But the full frame allows for an ISO increase.

Would I buy it again? YES. It makes me a two lens person, the OSS 28-70 - and the 50-400 - About covers all situations.

A bit expensive. Certainly, less than Sony. But I do not feel I gave up anything.

My best 2lens option is 28-70oss +
Maxxum 70-210/3.5-4.5, or 3lens with 28-70, Maxx 100-300Apo and a nice Pentax 85/2. You win by a mile on the long end

Edit/update. You still win, but I've added the Minolta 24-105D to pair with the 100-300D Apo. Fun team along with the ea4.

Right now I'm carrying an A1 with the 100-400 lens and an A7RIIIA with 24 mm lens for landscape and wildlife. It is very heavy. I'm considering the 50-400 and the A1 only, but not sure 50 mm is going to be good enough for landscape.

Do you shoot with a Pentax? I use to have a K1Ii and a KP. You have to love the Limited lenses.
